Why It’s Important To Support Each Other

Just like buildings, people need support. We need others who prop us up and hold us together. Here’s how you and I can support each other.

Everything in life needs a support system. Construction requires appropriately placed support columns throughout a building to ensure it remains standing.

A few years back, my company received a new building. For some reason, the design did not incorporate support columns into walls. They were visible throughout the building. My office had a column right in the middle of the room, about six inches off the exterior wall. Maybe it was supposed to be a metaphor that we were all part of the support team keeping the place open. Who knows?

Anyway, people need support, too. Over the last number of years managing The Writing Cooperative, I’ve witnessed so many writers trying to develop a career independently. Sure, you can write alone and rely on yourself, but why would you want to? I know from personal experience that my writing, mental well-being, and confidence improved after I built a team of writing supporters.
