Predictions for 2017

Last week Stella asked us to air our grievances in celebration of Festivus. It was cathartic. It was helpful. It was hilarious. So today, dear reader, let’s leave the dumpster fire of 2016 in the past and look ahead to the future!

What do you think will happen in 2017? Will it be our last year in existence or will it be our best year ever? Will you lose 15 pounds or gain 25? Will Trump melt down the planet? Will Daenerys finally get back to Westeros?

Make your predictions by responding to this story. Points will be awarded for hilarity, practicality, and creativity. Bonus points for clever and relevant use of gifs. At the end of 2017 (if we’re all still here) we’ll look back and see, well, we’ll see something.

My Predictions for 2017

  • I will read more, but without using my eyes. In 2016 I read just under 5,000 stories on Medium but very few actual books. In 2017, I will read more than 5,000 stories on Medium and listen to a bunch of books on Audible, because I’m lazy and Audible is awesome. I am currently “reading” Bruce Springsteen’s autobiography.
  • Medium will continue to not allow users to arrange and style their profile page like publications. People will still complain and create personal publications, which was Medium’s goal all along.
  • I will attempt to lose 15 pounds. I know, it’s cliché but deal with it. But who am I really kidding? As always, Macklemore is right.
  • The Trump family will be unmasked, Scooby-Doo style, as the real life Lannister. You know what I’m talking about. You know.
  • I will write something in my Day One journal every day and I will publish something once a week as part of The Writing Cooperative 52-week writing challenge. The what? Stay tuned.
  • Anna Kendrick will continue to make a dozen movies a year that are amazing but no one will know about until they hit iTunes. (Aside: see Mr. Right and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Oh, and Rapturepalooza is pretty great too. And Scrappy Little Nobody is worth a listen on Audible.)
  • The inauguration and MLK Jr. Day being the same weekend will not go over well. I really hope I’m wrong about this one.
  • My publication, chow🍴down, will reach over one million followers and be the go-to travel and food publication on Medium, after Anthony Bourdain publishes a story about New York’s original punk bars. Hey, dream big, right?

What do you think will happen next year?

Like Stella J., I’m tagging people that might have something to say. It’s not all inclusive so respond away with your predictions! Or don’t, and just recommend and highlight things you like because, you know, that’s how this whole thing works.
