Did you know the personal essay died in 2017? Neither did I. In fact, here at The Writing Cooperative, we think the personal essay is more alive than ever and have three fantastic ways to help you explore the personal essay and stretch your writing muscles.

1: This Week In Writing

Today is the day our podcast, This Week In Writing, launches! In our first episode, Cherie Gilmour shares her experience with the personal essay. Plus, we discuss experiences with writer’s block. Find This Week In Writing everywhere podcasts are found (Apple, Google, Spotify, and more).

2: Writing Challenge

We’ve partnered with Kelly Eden and Ash Jurberg from Inspired Writer for a personal essay writing challenge! Read the details at Inspired Writer, but there are great prizes from our friends at ProWritingAid involved. The deadline to enter is July 24, so act fast.

3: Writing Quest

Friend of the Cooperative, Payam Salehi, is the founder of Anam Cara — think a mash of Meetup and Masterclass. Anam Cara is launching their next Writing Quest on July 15, led by author Faith Adiele. This quest is so cool and we think many of you will be interested, whether your writing goals involve personal essays or another form. It combines mentoring, paired accountability buddies, goal setting, and more. Plus, Payam is providing our community with $20 off using the code “wcfriends”. Act fast because spaces are limited.

Summer Break

The three of us are each going to enjoy a little much-needed time off throughout the month of July. As a result, new writing requests will close from July 3 through 31. Our time off is staggered, so we will still review every submission within a week. Thank you for your patience.
